MeowTrail Rules
The Grid
MeowTrail is played on a grid of white cells and black cells. Your goal is to place light bulbs on white cells so that every white cell is illuminated.
5 Core Rules
- Place bulbs on white cells — tap a white cell to place or remove a bulb
- Bulbs illuminate their row and column — light travels until blocked by a black cell
- No two bulbs can see each other — two bulbs in the same row/column with no black cell between them is illegal
- Numbered black cells are clues — a "2" means exactly 2 of its 4 neighbors must have bulbs
- All white cells must be lit — every white cell must be in the path of at least one bulb
FAQ
How do you play MeowTrail?
Place light bulbs on white cells so every white cell is illuminated. Numbered black cells must have exactly that many adjacent bulbs. No two bulbs can see each other in the same row or column.
What do the numbers mean?
A number on a black cell tells you exactly how many of its four adjacent (up/down/left/right) cells contain light bulbs.
Can light pass through black cells?
No. Black cells block light completely. A bulb only illuminates white cells in its row and column until it hits a black cell or the grid edge.
Is MeowTrail the same as Akari?
Yes! MeowTrail is Oakever Games' cat-themed version of Akari (also known as Light Up), a classic logic puzzle originally created by Nikoli in Japan.
